Dinah BucholzThe Unofficial Narnia Cookbook (Sourcebooks Jabberwocky 2012), her sequel to The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook, features recipes from the wonderful and delicious tales of C.S. Lewis. All Narnia fans know that no new books are coming out, and there’s no new movie this holiday season. What are they to do? Don’t dream about how you would write the next book, but pretend instead that you are feasting in Narnia.

Unofficial Narnia Cookbook by Dinah BucholzStart with the very first book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Lucy‘s first trip to Narnia, by recreating Lucy’s tea with the faun, Mr. Tumnus, (pp.18-19). Recipes include Cheesy Scrambled Eggs, and Sweet and Crunchy Cinnamon Toast. Or if you’re inviting relatives over, why not give them a taste of the feast of the three sleepers (pp. 205-216), with Roast Boar Head and Ice Puddings. The best part of The Unofficial Narnia Cookbook is the comedy of reading about Turkish delight. If only Edmund knew how to make them himself, the adventure would never have happened.

This would be a great gift for someone who likes to cook for friends, family, or just some faun. Many of the recipes are too hard for kids to do on their own – but with a parent’s help, they can image themselves feasting in Narnia.
