Food Bank of New York: Go Orange

Go Orange Ad 2013 - Mario Batali

Despite the economic recovery, rising stock market, and slowly reducing jobless rate, the poverty rate in America is a staggering 15%. That means there are more people in homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and pantries. In New York City alone, one in three are struggling to afford food. The Food Bank For New York has launched a month-long “Go Orange” campaign to fight hunger this September.

The goal of “Go Orange” to raise awareness and support for the 1.5 million New Yorkers who rely on Food Bank’s network of soup kitchens and food pantries across the five boroughs. For foodies, two events are especially inviting:

Go Orange Restaurant Week: Eat and drink at dell’anima this week (Sept 16-Sept 22) or Anfora (all this month) to enjoy orange-colored offerings. A portion of the proceeds will go to Food Bank.
NYC Dumping Festival: Enjoy dumplings from around the world – including Italy, China, Malaysia, and Poland – and the proceeds will benefit Food Bank (September 28th in Sara D. Roosevelt Park, Manhattan). Proceeds will benefit Food Bank.
