Across the US and across the world, thousands of kids are tackling some of the toughest problems facing the world today: food safety. They are participating in FIRST LEGO League‘s Food Factor Challenge that combines a robot game with a research project.

The point is to encourage innovation and invention, while getting kids (9-14 years old) more enthusiastic about careers in Science, Technology, Engineer, and Math (STEM). Teams have to find a food safety issue and come up with an innovative solution.

This year’s theme is important to everyone – especially chefs who depend on safe food.

A big hand of thanks to Irish Chef Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, VA, who stepped up to encourage FLL teams to do there best.
