As Americans scramble to purchase holiday gifts post-Thanksgiving, Super Chef calmly contemplates the best gifts for foodies. If you want to appeal to a foodies’ imagination and creative spirit, look no further then the best foodie Art exhibit of 2010: The National Gallery’s wonderful show of the work of 16th-century Milanese painter, Giuseppe Arcimboldo. If you can’t get to “Arcimboldo, 1526-1593: Nature and Fantasy” before it closes on Jan. 9, then purchase one of the terrific Archimboldo gifts.
There are wall calendars with images of the elaborate faces of the seasons all made from food- fruit, vegetables, seafood, and the like, or several books on the art, including Taschen Art Books: Arcimboldo by Werner Kriegskorte and a very good documentary: Arcimboldo: Nature and Fantasy
