After The Help: Bayou Bakery

A good movie will make you feel some of what the characters in the film feel – happy, scared, and hungry. The trick is to make sure you do something about those feelings after the film is finished.

Hunger is the easiest. That’s where David Guas of Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery in Arlington, VA comes in. He’ll satisfy the hunger you’ll feel after seeing the new movie The Help, premiering on August 10th. The film, based on Kathryn Stockett‘s novel of the same name, is about a Southern town turned upside down after a white woman decides to interview the black women who work for prominent southern families.

Eat at Bayou Bakery afterwards or have them cater a meal – that includes David Guas’ take on the dishes in the movie. His are treasured recipes from his Louisiana family including Aunt Boo and “The Gap” [Great Aunt Patty.] that are the cornerstones of Bayou Bakery.
