A bottle of a great olive oil as a gift or a holiday present is sure to please a foodie.
But why stop at a bottle? Give an olive tree.
Better yet give an adoption certificate for a particular tree in a family run co-operative of olive groves in Le Marche region of Italy. Through Nudo, the adoption certificate will come with:
- Four 500 ml tins of first, cold-press extra-virgin olive oil from tree in Spring (mid-April)
- Three 250 ml tins of infused, extra-virgin olive oil (i.e., lemon, chile, orange) in Fall
- Open invitation to come and visit your tree
The booklet that comes with the olive oil shows includes a photo of the tree, and an id number, as well as information like the age of the tree and the olive variety.
There are currently 2,514 trees in nine small, artisanal producers. The Nudo scheme helps provide financial security so that families will continue to tend their trees. The olive oil is certified organic and a portion of the estate is set-aside as forest to offset its carbon footprint, according to Nudo press release.
So do an Angelina Jolie or Madonna, but instead of adopting a child, give a tree a chance.
