What is 2011 all about? For some in TV land, it is about Oprah Winfrey Network, OWN, launched on January 1, a joint venture between Oprah Winfrey‘s Harpo Inc. and Discovery Communications on cable TV replacing Discovery Health network.
There is not much yet to entice foodies or change the pace of food television. Cat Cora will have a show according to her website, though it isn’t clear what the show will be about or what it is called.
Two shows have been announced:
- Anna and Kristina’s Grocery Bag (3 p.m. weekdays): Anna Wallner and Kristina Matisic put popular cookbooks to the test
- Cristina’s Big Bowl of Love (3:30 p.m. weekdays): Author and former talk show host Cristina Ferrare shares conversation with celebrity guests while making simple dishes
Neither is enough to make waves, but considering the clout Oprah has in effecting public opinion – for those of us with less-restrictive diets – let’s hope she does not become a foie gras hater or a vegan any time soon.
