Kitchens are workshops for food. The tools are similar to those found in a woodshop or on a workbench. Proper tools in the kitchen or in the workshop make work easier and create better results.
Super Chef‘s favorite new tool?
Microplane’s Classic Zester/Grater with a nifty turquoise handle.
This tool looks like a rasp – long and strait – and does just what a rasp would do, grate hard surfaces. Super Chef tried it with Parmigiano Reggiano with terrific results: fine flakes of cheese that fell off the grater onto a plate of pasta without mess. The turquoise handle is easy to hold, non slippery, and big enough that there is no risk of touching the sharp blades. The zester worked well on lemons – without taking off any pith with the lemon zest.
Microplane’s Zester/Grater along with a piece of Parmigiano Reggiano or a block of chocolate makes a great summer gift.
Though Super Chef is partial to turquoise, it also comes in hot pink, purple, and more demure orange, green, yellow, red, and black.
