If you are considering a Mediterranean diet, then get yourself to Crete, where a heart-healthy diet has been perfected. The core of that diet is olive oil. Crete’s Culinary Sanctuaries is Super Chef‘s favorite way to get immersed in all things Cretan gastronomic.

The latest offering is a 9-day trip Olive Harvest Seminar that focuses on Crete’s olive oil throughout the Mediterranean island. It starts in of Heraklion renowned for olive oil and wine production since the Minoan period, and then goes to Chania, noted for an ideal climate for the production of extra virgin olive oil, and finally, into the White Mountains “to stay at a magical ecolodge. The owners grow/produce nearly everything served in their taverna. We can choose to help in their organic gardens, enjoy cooking classes and hike in the region,” according to Nikki Rose, tour leader and author of Crete: The Roots of the Mediterranean Diet, enjoying the benefits of one of the world’s healthiest cuisines wherever you live.

The trip is full of farmers, chefs, and historians who will provide insight into what farm-to-table cookery on the island is all about.
