It’s not everyday that teenagers get to eat with an ambassador.
In celebration of Singapore Food Day, students at Alice Deal Middle School in Washington DC are eating their very special school lunch with Ambassador Ashok Mirpuri and his wife.
In fact, all 118 DCPS cafeterias in the District will get a taste of Singapore with traditional recipes and flavors during lunch period today. Then students will participate in Indian, Chinese, and Malay arts and activities. Here’s what lunch is looking like:
- Lunch Menu:
- Savory Singapore Stir-Fried Bee Hoon (thin rice noodles) with Shredded Chicken (or Tofu for Vegetarian) & Vegetables
- Cucumber Tomato Salad
- Fruit
- Milk
- Singapore traditional drink (selection of lychee, chrysanthemum, green tea, grass jelly or soy bean)
- Snack pack of traditional Singapore snacks
The Singapore Food Day follows last week’s fundraiser, the Embassy Chef Challenge, in which the Capital’s diplomatic chefs competed against one another. This kind of culinary and cultural exchange with students is just the kind of eye opener that could lead to some very interesting careers.
