What do you do Iron Chefs have in common?

Airport restaurants.

Michael Symon announced that he is opening Bar Symon at Pittsburgh International Airport, following Cat Cora‘s Cat Cora’s Kitchen in airports in Houston and San Francisco.

Bar Symon is a joint venture operated by United Concessions Group and The Paradies Group that has signed a lease with AIRMALL USA for 2,500 sq. ft according to the press release. The restaurant is slated to open in the spring of 2012.

Bar Symon will offer a diverse menu that showcases Chef Symon’s creative twists on comfort food classics. Signature dishes will include the Lola Burger topped with a fried egg and pickled red onions; Lola Fries with sea salt and fresh rosemary; and two varieties of baked macaroni and cheese, including one with blue cheese, bacon and parsley, and one with cheddar, pulled pork, hot sauce and scallions.

Just like casino hotels, golf courses, cruise ships, and sports stadiums, airports have been adding celebrity chef restaurants to lure travelers and city residents. Many super chefs operate airport eateries: Wolfgang Puck has a chain of Expresses, Todd English had pizza restaurants, and even Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger have pushed to get a Border Grill in LAX.
