In an effort to encourage more cider making and drinking, Super Chef notes with pleasure that Distillery Lane Ciderworks in Jefferson, Maryland will be hosting its Fourth Annual “First Press” Festival on Saturday, September 7 from 10:00 to 5:00. Anyone in the Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD area should plan on joining the fun.
The Ciderworks is featuring four new hard ciders: Kingston Black aged in oak, two barrel-aged ciders and Scrumpy:
Traditionally in England, Scrumpy was rough, dry, cloudy and strong cider. If you worked at the cider orchard and were paid in Scrumpy, you were a wurzel. We’ve bottled our Scrumpy with that classic rich cloudy character, great apple aroma and a touch of sweetness. Enjoy our Scrumpy with fish and chips or bangers and mash like the wurzels of old! Alcohol 9% by volume.
The First Press festival includes: Carnivore BBQ Food Truck and Pinch Dumplings, South Mountain Creamery Ice Cream Truck. Live music, cider pressing demonstrations, orchard tours, beekeeping demonstrations, and a Civil War history lecture.
While in the area you can also try the country butcher shop, Hemp’s Meats and feast at Frederick, MD’s local celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio’s restaurants: Volt and Family Meal and Lunch Box among other fine restaurants.
