Winter Break: Cayman Cookout

How do you get chefs to promote tourism?

Find a warm beach location and organize a good food festival. The Cayman Cookout, January 13-16, is a weekend culinary fair on Grand Cayman, in the middle of what will no doubt be, a very cold Northeast winter.

The cookout is in its third year, drawing chefs like Eric Ripert, who runs Blue at the Ritz-Carlton, Charlie Trotter, and Jose Andres.

Joining them are more chef stars: Susur Lee, Rachel Allen, Michael Schwartz, Cindy Hutson, Dean Max, and Jennifer Carroll — not to forget Anthony Bourdain.

It is a vacation wrapped up in a food festival. There will be the usual demonstrations, tastings, and plenty of lounging at the beach and poolside. If you feel the cold coming on too fast for you here on the US mainland, think about a Cayman cookout.
