Tomorrow, if people have been generous enough, Mario Batali will have to cut off his ponytail. Mario, along with nine other celebrity chefs, partnered with Food & Wine magazine for Chefs Make Change (CMC), a nationwide campaign to raise one million dollars for the chefs’ philanthropic organizations, including Mario’s Mario Batali Foundation. Mario pledged that if CMC could raise $500,000 by February 7, he would cut off his locks.
The Chefs Make Change campaign is ongoing, so if you haven’t already pledged to one of the chefs, there is plenty of time left:
•Jose Andres: World Central Kitchen
•Dan Barber: Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture
•Mario Batali: Mario Batali Foundation
•Rick Bayless: The Frontera Farmer Foundation
•Cat Cora: Chefs for Humanity
•Emeril Lagasse: Emeril Lagasse Foundation
•Michel Nischan: Wholesome Wave
•Art Smith: Common Threads
•Bill Telepan: Wellness in the Schools
•Alice Waters: The Edible Schoolyard Project
Learn about the individual charities and then donate through Food & Wine’s facebook page or website. There are plenty of other chefs who support important charities. Read Super Chef article.
